This Privacy Policy explains how the Curated mobile application (“Curated” or the “Application”), provided by David Blake (“the Service Provider”), handles information.
Curated is a photo-planning application provided as a freemium service. It does not require registration for a Curated online account.
Summary
- The Service Provider does not operate a server that receives or stores your Curated accounts, photos, captions, grids or planning data.
- Curated does not contain advertising or third-party analytics and does not track you across apps or websites.
- Most information is processed and stored locally on your device.
- Pro users may optionally back up selected Curated accounts to their own private iCloud storage.
- Curated uses Apple services for features such as Photo Library access, private iCloud backup, notifications and purchases.
- Information you voluntarily send by email is received by the Service Provider so that your enquiry can be answered.
Information Processed by Curated
Curated processes information that you add to or create within the Application, including:
- Curated account, grid and folder names;
- grid layouts, favourites, history, carousel arrangements and display settings;
- post drafts, captions and hashtags;
- photo and video references;
- thumbnail framing, crop, zoom and aspect-ratio settings;
- imported screenshots and crops created from those screenshots;
- labels or social-media handles you enter for imported screenshot grids;
- profile-picture selections; and
- reminder dates and times.
This information is used only to provide the Application’s functionality.
Photos and Videos
Curated requests access to your Photo Library so that you can select photos and videos for use in your grids and planned posts. Access is subject to the permission you provide through iOS.
For media that already exists in your Photo Library, Curated may store:
- an identifier used to find the media again;
- information such as its media type, dimensions or modification date;
- a small fallback preview; and
- framing or presentation settings.
Curated generally attempts to retrieve the original media or a suitable thumbnail from your Photo Library rather than storing another full-resolution copy.
Media created within Curated, such as cropped images imported from screenshots, may be stored by Curated because an equivalent original may not exist in your Photo Library.
You can change Curated’s Photo Library access through the privacy settings on your device. Removing access may prevent Curated from displaying or resolving some media.
Storage on Your Device
When iCloud backup is not enabled for a Curated account, its planning data is stored within the Application’s local storage on your device.
Curated may also maintain temporary or cached image files to improve performance. These caches may be removed by Curated, iOS or by uninstalling the Application.
Some settings and purchase entitlements are stored securely in Apple Keychain. Where iCloud Keychain is enabled, Apple may synchronize eligible Keychain items between your devices.
Data stored locally by Curated may also be included in device backups according to your Apple backup settings.
Optional iCloud Backup
Pro users may choose whether to back up individual Curated accounts to iCloud. Existing accounts are not intentionally uploaded until the user enables this option.
When enabled, Curated may store the following in the user’s private CloudKit database:
- account, grid and folder information;
- grid contents and ordering;
- Photo Library identifiers and media metadata;
- compact fallback previews;
- imported screenshot images and other media created within Curated;
- captions, hashtags and post drafts;
- crop, framing, zoom and display settings; and
- labels or social-media handles associated with imported screenshot grids.
The Service Provider does not operate a separate server that receives this information.
Private CloudKit records are stored in the user’s own iCloud account, count towards the user’s iCloud storage allowance and are not visible to the Service Provider through the CloudKit developer portal.
Apple processes and safeguards this information as the provider of iCloud and CloudKit. Apple’s handling of information is governed by the Apple Privacy Policy.
Turning off iCloud backup in Curated does not automatically delete a previously stored iCloud copy. Curated retains the cloud copy so that it is not accidentally removed from the user’s other devices.
Reminders and Notifications
Curated can schedule reminders for planned posts if you grant notification permission.
Reminder details, including the post reference, reminder date and time, and an optional thumbnail attachment, are used to create a notification through Apple’s notification system. Curated does not send reminder information to a Service Provider-operated notification server.
Notification content may appear on your lock screen according to your device notification settings. You can remove reminders within Curated or disable notification access in iOS Settings.
Purchases
Purchases and restoration of Pro access are handled by Apple through the App Store and StoreKit.
The Service Provider does not receive your payment-card, bank-account or other payment information. Curated receives only the transaction or entitlement status required to unlock purchased features. The entitlement may be stored in Apple Keychain so that it can be restored across devices.
Apple Services
Curated uses Apple-provided services where required for functionality, including:
- PhotoKit for accessing photos and videos you authorize;
- private CloudKit for optional iCloud backup;
- iCloud Keychain for eligible settings and purchase entitlements;
- the Apple notification system for reminders and CloudKit synchronization; and
- StoreKit for purchases and restoring Pro access.
Apple may process technical and account information necessary to provide these services in accordance with the Apple Privacy Policy.
Information Received by the Service Provider
The Service Provider does not receive your Curated grids, Photo Library contents, private iCloud records, captions or other planning data through a Service Provider-operated server.
If you contact the Service Provider by email, the Service Provider will receive your email address and any information you include in your message. This information will be used to respond to your enquiry and may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to handle the enquiry or maintain appropriate business records.
You should not include sensitive personal information in support messages unless it is necessary.
Analytics, Advertising and Tracking
Curated does not currently include:
- third-party advertising;
- advertising identifiers;
- cross-app or cross-website tracking;
- data brokers; or
- third-party behavioural analytics services.
Curated does not sell personal information.
Apple may independently process App Store, purchase, diagnostic or service information according to your device settings and Apple’s privacy practices.
Location and Other Device Information
Curated does not request or collect precise or approximate device location.
Curated does not request access to your contacts, microphone, health information or other unrelated device data.
Sharing of Information
The Service Provider does not sell or disclose Curated planning data to advertisers, analytics providers or data brokers.
Information is transmitted to Apple only where necessary to provide Apple services selected or enabled by the user, such as private iCloud backup, iCloud Keychain, notifications and App Store purchases.
Curated does not currently connect to Instagram or Meta accounts or use the Instagram API.
Your Choices and Permissions
You can control how Curated handles information by:
- granting, limiting or revoking Photo Library access in iOS Settings;
- granting or revoking notification permission in iOS Settings;
- choosing whether individual Curated accounts are backed up to iCloud;
- deleting individual photos, drafts, grids or accounts within Curated;
- managing Curated’s stored data through Apple’s iCloud storage settings; and
- uninstalling the Application to remove its local application data.
Some features may stop working correctly if the permissions they require are revoked.
Retention and Deletion
Local Curated data is retained until you delete the relevant content or account, uninstall the Application, or iOS removes temporary cached data.
Deleting a cloud-backed Curated account from within Curated instructs the Application to remove that account’s records from its CloudKit data. Synchronization and final removal may take time to propagate across devices.
Turning off iCloud backup alone does not delete the existing cloud copy. To remove a previously backed-up account, restore or re-enable access to the cloud-backed account and then delete that account from Curated. You may also manage Curated’s stored data through the iCloud storage settings provided by Apple.
Uninstalling Curated does not necessarily remove:
- data already stored in private iCloud storage;
- items synchronized through iCloud Keychain; or
- records independently retained by Apple as part of its services.
Because the Service Provider cannot inspect or directly access your private CloudKit database, deletion of that private data must generally be performed through Curated or Apple’s iCloud management controls. You may contact the Service Provider for assistance.
Information received through support emails may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to respond to the enquiry, resolve disputes or maintain appropriate business records. You may request deletion of support correspondence by contacting the Service Provider.
Security
Curated uses platform facilities such as the iOS application sandbox, Apple Keychain and private CloudKit storage to protect information.
However, no storage or transmission method can be guaranteed to be completely secure. The security and availability of information stored through Apple services also depends on Apple and the security of your Apple Account and devices.
You should protect your device and Apple Account with appropriate passwords, authentication controls and device security settings.
Changes to This Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated when Curated’s functionality or data-handling practices change.
The updated policy will be published on this page with a revised “Last updated” date. Material changes may also be communicated within the Application where appropriate.
You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for changes.
